A comforting Amish-style dish featuring juicy beef patties nestled in a rich, savory gravy.

  • Total Time: 75 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (For thickening gravy)
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 6 to 8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.
  3. Heat a bit of oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the sliced onions until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle in the flour and stir to combine. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring continuously.
  6. Slowly whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream, stirring until the sauce is smooth.
  7. Nestle the browned patties back into the skillet with the gravy. Cover tightly and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  8. Uncover and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes.
  9. Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a twist, try adding different spices, or use ground turkey for a lighter option. Serve with crusty bread to soak up the gravy.
