Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box of chocolate cake mix (or 1 homemade chocolate cake)
- 1 cup heavy cream (for whipping)
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups canned or fresh cherries (pitted, with juice or syrup)
- ¼ cup cherry juice (from the canned cherries or fresh)
- 2 cups vanilla pudding (store-bought or homemade)
- ½ cup dark chocolate shavings (or grated chocolate)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Bake your chocolate cake according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe. Allow it to cool completely before assembling the trifle.
- Whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until soft peaks form.
- If using canned cherries, drain them and reserve the juice. Mix cherries with reserved cherry juice.
- In a large glass serving bowl, start layering: chocolate cake, vanilla pudding, whipped cream, and cherries, repeating layers until all ingredients are used.
- Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld.
Notes
For extra flavor, chill your mixing bowl and beaters before whipping the cream. Consider using fresh cherries and adding espresso powder to the cake for depth.
