Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for caramelizing)
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Slice the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish in a single layer.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until fully combined and slightly frothy.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring each piece is generously coated. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the bread is soaking.
- Remove from the fridge and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is puffed and golden brown.
- Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize until golden and crispy.
- Serve warm, optionally adding fresh berries or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
For best results, use slightly stale bread and ensure to refrigerate to enhance flavors.
