Instructions
- Slice the French bread into thick slices and arrange in a greased baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring they are soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the center is set and top is golden.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar on top for the caramelized finish.
- Use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize the sugar until golden and crispy.
- Serve warm, garnished with fresh berries or syrup if desired.
Notes
For different flavors, consider using stale bread, adding a pinch of nutmeg, or incorporating flavor infusions like espresso.
