- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup bell peppers, diced (any color)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cups marinara sauce (low-sugar)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 cup sliced mushrooms or olives
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey until browned for 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
- Add the onions and bell peppers to the pan and cook for another 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Pour in the marinara sauce and simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Spread the meat and vegetable mixture evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispy top, if desired.
Notes
Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or crushed red pepper flakes for added flavor.
