Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour (120 grams)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
½ cup butter (salted or unsalted), softened
2–4 tbsp milk (more or less as needed)
½ tsp vanilla extract
Pinch salt (omit if using salted butter)
½ cup chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Heat treat the flour to eliminate any potential bacteria. You can do this by microwaving it in 20-second intervals for about 40–60 seconds, until it reaches 165°F. Alternatively, bake it in a preheated oven at 350°F for 3–5 minutes. Let it cool completely.
2. In a large bowl with a handheld mixer or in a standing mixer, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy.
3. Add the cooled flour, vanilla, and salt to the creamed mixture.
4. Mix in the milk one tablespoon at a time until the desired cookie dough consistency is reached.
5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula or spoon.
6. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
It is important to let the flour cool completely before adding it to the butter mixture to avoid melting the butter.
Sifting the flour after heat-treating helps remove any lumps for a smoother texture.
For a faster version, melt the butter and mix all ingredients by hand — the texture will be different but still tasty.
This dough may have a slight grittiness, which can soften after refrigeration.
