Ingredients
For the dough:
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup plain flour
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 cup water
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
For the coating:
1 tbsp cinnamon powder
1 cup white sugar
Instructions
1. In a pan, combine water, butter, salt, and sugar.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
3. Once boiling, reduce the heat and gradually add in the flour, stirring continuously until the dough comes together smoothly.
4. Turn off the heat and remove the pan from the stove.
5. Transfer the dough from the pan into a large mixing bowl and let it cool down for about 4-5 minutes.
6. Once slightly cooled, add in the egg and vanilla extract.
7. Use an electric hand mixer to thoroughly combine the ingredients until a smooth mixture is achieved.
8. Transfer the churro dough into a piping bag.
9. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
10. Spray the air fryer basket with a neutral nonstick cooking spray.
11. Carefully pipe bite-sized churros into the basket, ensuring not to overcrowd them.
12. Lightly brush some butter on top of the churros and cook them in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes until they turn golden brown.
13. You may need to work in several batches.
14. In a shallow bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon powder.
15. Once the churros are cooked, transfer them directly into the cinnamon sugar mixture.
16. Toss them gently to ensure they are evenly coated. (Brush with melted butter first to help the mixture adhere better, if needed).
17. Enjoy your churros warm with dips like chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella.
Notes
Use a star tip for piping to achieve the classic ridged churro shape.
For crispier churros, allow them to rest in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes after cooking.
These are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes.
Try different coatings like powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate for variety.
