- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 4 slices provolone cheese (or any cheese of your preference)
- 4 hoagie rolls
- Olive oil, for cooking
Instructions
- Drizzle olive oil into a large skillet and heat over medium-high until shimmering.
- Toss in the sliced onions and bell peppers; sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened.
- If using, add mushrooms and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
- Push vegetables to one side of the skillet and add ground beef; break apart and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper; cook for 2 more minutes.
- Reduce heat to low, lay cheese over the beef mixture, cover, and let melt for 2-3 minutes.
- Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving a hinge.
- Fill each roll generously with the beef and vegetable mixture.
- Optional: Toast the rolls before serving for added texture.
Notes
Feel free to customize with different veggies and cheeses. For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with lentils or chickpeas.
