Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or any cheese of your preference)
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • Olive oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. Drizzle olive oil into a large skillet and heat over medium-high until shimmering.
  2. Toss in the sliced onions and bell peppers; sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened.
  3. If using, add mushrooms and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  4. Push vegetables to one side of the skillet and add ground beef; break apart and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper; cook for 2 more minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to low, lay cheese over the beef mixture, cover, and let melt for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving a hinge.
  8. Fill each roll generously with the beef and vegetable mixture.
  9. Optional: Toast the rolls before serving for added texture.

Notes

Feel free to customize with different veggies and cheeses. For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with lentils or chickpeas.
