Delicious homemade Philly cheesesteaks featuring savory ground beef, sautéed onions, and melty provolone cheese, all in crusty hoagie rolls.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté them until they soften, around 5-7 minutes.
  3. Toss in the ground beef, seasoning it generously with salt and pepper. Cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  4. While the meat cooks, preheat your oven’s broiler to high.
  5. Slice the hoagie rolls open, laying them out on a baking sheet.
  6. Generously scoop the beef and veggie mixture into each hoagie roll.
  7. Top each sandwich with slices of provolone cheese.
  8. Place the sandwiches under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, keeping a close eye on them until the cheese melts and begins to bubble.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in chopped jalapeños or sprinkling garlic powder while cooking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
