Ingredients
For the Caramel:
14 ounces caramel squares, unwrapped
1/3 cup heavy cream
For the Dough:
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Add-ins:
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
2. In a large bowl, cream the butter with the granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined. Fold in chocolate chips and chopped pecans.
4. Press half of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
5. In a saucepan, melt the caramel squares with the heavy cream over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
6. Pour the melted caramel evenly over the dough layer. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining dough over the caramel and gently spread.
7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
8. Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Lift out using parchment and cut into squares to serve.
Notes
Using parchment paper ensures easy removal and clean slices.
For extra gooey centers, avoid overbaking.
Try variations like using walnuts or dark chocolate chips. A sprinkle of sea salt over the caramel adds a delicious salty-sweet touch.
