Fast, flavorful, and budget-friendly — this Mongolian Ground Beef recipe brings bold Asian-inspired flavor to your table in under 30 minutes! Sweet, savory, and perfectly saucy.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound lean ground beef

12 teaspoons minced ginger

3 cloves garlic (finely minced)

1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

3 tablespoons hoisin sauce

1/4 cup water

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Black pepper (to taste)

Green onions (for garnish)

Rice or noodles (for serving)

Instructions

1. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef with the ginger and garlic until the beef is nicely crumbled and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and place the pan back on the stove.

2. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, and hoisin sauce. Add this mixture to the ground beef. Let it cook for about 2 to 3 minutes to allow flavors to marry.

3. In another small bowl, whisk the 1/4 cup water with the 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Pour this into the ground beef mixture. Stir continuously until the sauce becomes nice and thick.

4. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes, black pepper, and green onions to taste.

5. Serve warm over rice or noodles.

Notes

Use lean beef and low-sodium soy sauce to make it lighter and heart-friendlier.

Add steamed broccoli or snap peas for extra vegetables and color.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days — great for meal prep!
